In 1910, Coco opened Chanel Modes, a hat shop at 21 rue Cambon in Paris, where she started her fashion career as a milliner. She established the current business and a second boutique, this time in Deauville, Normandy, in 1913. She started creating sportswear a year later.
French designer Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel introduced her debut fragrance, Chanel No. 5, in 1921. Ernest Beaux, a French-Russian perfumer and chemist, created the fragrance's recipe. A significant component of the product's branding has been the bottle's design.
