Francisco Rabaneda y Cuervo was born Paco Rabanne in 1934 in the Basque Country of Spain. When he was five years old, he fled to France with his mother, a head streamstress at Balenciaga, to avoid the Spanish Civil War. There, he went by the name Paco Rabanne.

Francisco "Paco" Rabaneda Cuervo, a Spanish designer, established the Paco Rabanne fragrance company in 1966.
