GUCCI
Guccio Gucci established the House of Gucci in 1921. While working at the Savoy Hotel in London, Gucci was inspired by the exquisite baggage he saw travellers carrying. He returned to Florence with the intention of fusing the exquisite craftsmanship of traditional Florentine artisans with the sophisticated elegance of the wealthy travellers he saw.
High demand existed for the company's high-quality leather items with equestrian themes, and during World War II, when leather was in short supply, Gucci's creative use of hemp, linen, and jute broadened the brand's style. Guccio Gucci passed away in 1953, but his sons and grandson successfully led the business's growth into a globally renowned producer of luxury products. The 1960s saw the adoption of the company's iconic "double G" emblem.
In 1974, the brand debuted its first fragrance, Gucci No. 1 for women. Since then, a number of perfumes for both men and women have been introduced; many of these, like Gucci 3 and L'Arte di Gucci, have become legendary among perfume collectors. From the middle of the 1990s until the beginning of the twenty-first century, Tom Ford was the company's originator and director. Ford was replaced by Frida Giannini as creative director, and Alessandro Michele has been in charge since 2015.
